A Sunday full of 5

Postby Kirkyworld » Sun Feb 07, 2010 7:01 pm

I decided to fit a new thermostat to the 5 this morning. It seemed to take ages to warm up and the trusty haynes says stat is the most likely cause. To my amazement the hose came off ok, the water drained, (i got the hose in to swill the crud out) and after some cleaning of surfaces the new one went in with a crisp new gasket and after re-filling it seems to warm up a treat!! No broken bolts, no lost knucles something must go wrong messing with a 19 year old motor surely? The cause was a lump of muck wedging the stat open. Not being a mechanic I was chuffed to not have to call Dad (who was a mechanic) to come and sort my mess out for a change!!
I spent the remainder of the day washing and ****ing the 5 then had to go out in the rain to get a little sideways action :D
Now it needs cleaning again lol

These cars are quite remarkable :) When I renewed the suspension on Black Bess, all the underside nuts and bolts came free easily and nothing sheared - that was after 11 English winters. I was impressd to see that most nuts and bolts were cadmium coated. Legendary Japanese quality :)
