Who want's to camp etc? Post here or let us know:

Message from the organisers wrote:Hello fellow co-ordinators, I would like your help please,
As you will be aware we, Peaks and Pennines, are hosting our National Rally next year at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.
We are intending to hold local runs on the Saturday, both AM and PM if enough interest, followed in the evening, by a live band and pie and pea supper held in a Marquee, on a nearby campsite.
To help us decide on what size Marquee we need, an idea of numbers would be desirable.
I am sure you are all aware of the difficulties in arranging runs and days out, with regard to numbers attending for booking etc. which is where your help comes in.
If you could give me an idea of how many of your members you think would support the Sat night party, that would be very helpful.
I am sure most areas have a certain hardcore of regulars who attend most events without asking.
There will be plenty of camping spaces, and of course we will be posting local hotels and b&b's details shortly.
Any help with regard to numbers is greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance,
more details and a web site for more general publication will be available shortly.
kind regards

For those wishing to make a week of it, Oxford Area have booked rooms in a large holiday complex called Hurdlow Grange, Nr Burton. Apparently, there is surplus accomodation available, but you need to make your own arrangements with them.

. Worth going on the Hurdlow Grange web site to see what it looks like.
Got another e-mail from Jenny of the Oxford Club. There are 3 rooms left in the main house, but there is another 4 bedroom unit within the grounds, so there are a maximum of 14 spaces up for grabs. The more who book the cheaper it becomes - i.e. from £180pp down to £140pp per week if we can get it fully occupied. So if you want a week away, either to do your own thing or join up with a crowd going site-seeing, then its up to you.

MX5OC National Rally at Chatsworth 19th September 2010

Postby Hawkwind » Sun Aug 22, 2010 8:57 am

Who's for going up together in convoy to this year's National Rally at Chatsworth House on Sunday 19th September?
The trip from Northampton should take less than 2 hours travelling via the M1, A617 and A619 or longer if we decide upon a pretty route. Shall we leave from Sixfields cinema car park at 08.00 hrs?

We'd try to avoid motorways - take longer but go prettier routes on A and B roads. e.g A43 to Stamford, A1 to Newark, A616,A632 to Chesterfield OR B6047 to Melton Mowbray, then A1 at Grantham or Newark ....???

Would you be inclined to lead our group Trevor? How long would the run up take and what time should we be leaving?

Oooooh no! I wasn't volunteering! Being new to this game, I'm not used to these "convoys" - certainly not leading them. As you know from Kimbolton, we are SLOW compared with most of you - we stick to speed limits, and like to take our time. Also, my route(s) were taken from looking at the map - I've never actually tried them so I've no idea how long it would take. We (Dorothy and I) would start out early (7 am?) and "try it out" to see, fully expecting to get lost or having to do detours somewhere along the way. It also seems a long way to try to keep a convoy together, doesn't it?

Sorry Trevor, I didn't mean to put you on the spot there! Personally, I agree that leading a convoy is all about sticking to the speed limits, taking the pretty route and maintaining a pace that all members are comfortable with. The convoy to the National is, however, perhaps a little different in that we are anxious to get to the Rally as soon as possible and perhaps take a more leisurely, scenic drive home. I'm happy to take the lead to Chatsworth, or defer to somebody else and happy to take whichever route the consensus may be. I do think, however, that we ought to plan to arrive at 10.00 am (I need to prepare my car for the Best Kept 5 competition :D )

I am now thinking of using the A50, and turning off to Ashbourne. I'll probably try to miss Leicester, and go Melton Mowbray (could do the Ashby Folville route!) then across country to the A50. Which way did the "Bakewell Tart Run" use?

hi guys,
I don't reckon I can make the trip

but would say the run from Ashbourne up to Buxton is a good senic road but a bit out of your way or you could cut across from near newhaven back to Bakewell, Chatsworth is a stones through from there.

The A50 is all dual carriage way from when you get off or cross M1 & then A515 to Ashbourne once through Ashbourne it is a good senic road with a bit of go in places.

I'm sure you will work it out.

How about this for a plan then? We leave Sixfields at 08.00 hrs and travel up the M1 to J24, where we meet up with Trevor and Dorothy, then along the A50 to just before Uttoxeter, when we get onto the A515 through Ashbourne (an alternative spot to pick up Trevor and Dorothy), then up the A515 to 5 miles before Buxton, where we turn off onto the B5055 into Bakewell, then the A619 out to Chatsworth. Should arrive there for 10.30 hrs.

What time would you expect to be in Ashbourne? If we were to join the convoy, Ashbourne would probably be our preferred rendezvous, or somewhere on the way to Buxton/Chatsworth
