16th May 2010 - The First Annual Northampton Tart Run

The Inaugural Northampton Tart Run

Northants girls (including imports) may be the most fun.
Nottingham girls may be the prettiest.
But I reckon you can't beat a genuine Bakewell Tart for a delicious experience!

By popular demand, I will organise a Sunday run around and to Bakewell in the beautiful Peak District in April or May 2010 on a day that doesn't clash with the normal Sunday Lunch runs. Enjoy an all-day affair with the best tarts in the country, and take one or two home for a heavenly night. Peaks galore to explore, though this time we'll not get among the bigger ones further north.
If the weather's really terrible, we may just see what tarts we can find in Northampton supermarkets.

Unfortunately ZZ will not be able to come with me, because she'll be chasing polar bears again. So Hereward will have a spare seat - how many tarts can I get on that, plus a few reserves in the boot?
Mmmmm! - should be a great day, so be ready to put the date in your diary, once it's decided.

Well would you believe it, I am in York for the weekend and today took the Dakar for a picnic at chatsworth house. After lunch I went for a drive into bakewell and picked up four tasty looking tarts from the bakewell pudding shop! Ooh yes I wanna come back and get me some more!

Update on the Inaugural Topless Tart Run:

I am planning the run to leave Northampton and arrive at Bakewell after a stop about 1300 :) , to admire, pay for and enjoy the local Tarts 8) [some people call them Puddings  - I'm not sure why but I did hear a rumour that the local clothes shop specialises in outsize fashion  8) ].

The Tart Run will finish there (unless we get hopelessly lost  :? ). I am not organising a lunch venue but I recollect there are plenty of places to choose from.

I think I'm gonna have a ladybird beside me. If not, I guess there'll be more room for a tart or few  - if so, I will send one over to you, Keith.

It'll be a date to remember  - 16 May. Lulu.

UPDATE

0930 Meet at Sixfields, Northampton,as usual - remember to bring a camera if the weather's like today.
Some Eastern Region may meet us there. 8)

0945 Leave - up M1 to J18 :( , then cross-country :)

1115ish Meet NEM Region at Shell Service Station DE65 6DX 8)

1200 stop at the Shire Horse, Wyaston DE6 2DQ, to top up with beer. Peaks and Pennines Region members welcome to meet us here. 8)
The Shire Horse restaurant gets busy, but if anyone wants to try to book, the number is 01335 342714.

That’s the end of the Run  – you can break up into small groups, go home, go for a walk at Carsington reservoir, try to get a Bakewell tart if you can find anywhere to park, whatever you like.
About 1230 I’ll take anyone who wants to follow up to Bakewell, passing the reservoir, arriving about 1300.

Total distance Sixfields-Bakewell: about 110 miles (plus detours when I get lost  ).

Hi Terri and Rob,
We always meet in the Cinema car park (lhs as you drive in). Sadly I won't be able to join this run, but you will be made most welcome by the Northampton gang. Just walk up to anybody and introduce yourselves. Michael drives "Hereward" a lovely bright yellow Mk1.
Enjoy the drive and welcome to the Club :D

Brighter than he was last week  - took most of the Bank Holiday, dodging showers, but worthwhile  until we went for a ride today. :? Now he's a dirty little sod again.

Radio Report yesterday afternoon: massive queues on the A6 at Bakewell  - they got the date wrong - the MX5's won't be parading for another couple of weeks :P

The first step in any journey is the hardest, but you just have to take it.

I'm picking LadyBird 8) (aka the Long-Haired General) up at 9-15 to navigate for us, and aim to be at Sixfields for 9-25/9-30, for a 9-45 start.
If you are running late, catch us up on M1: leaving it at J18.
After that, you just have to take the same chance as the rest of us on where the LHG may lead us.

Weather forecast could be better  - but I've never had a tops-up run yet. :?
